The Laboratory at Southeast Arizona Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission. Clinical laboratory scientist, known as medical technologists or technicians, assist physicians in the outpatient, inpatient and emergency room settings to diagnose medical conditions. Lab tests ordered by the doctors are processed by the laboratory for accurate testing results on many different types of automated instruments. CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST MEDICAL TECHNOLOGISTS Have a bachelors degree in biology, physics, chemistry, or medical technology. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN Have an associates degree in medical laboratory technology. LABORATORY ASSISTANTS May be trained as a medical assistant, patient care technician or have a certificate in laboratory assisting. PHLEBOTOMIST There are many training programs in phlebotomy for anyone with a high school diploma to qualify for this entry level position. IMPORTANCE OF BLOOD TESTING When a patient isn't feeling well their doctor may order blood tests to help determine the cause.
